Linda - Before and After

A huge congratulations to Linda on her amazing personal transformation. Linda was very clear on her goals from the beginning - better health, more energy, less body fat and higher quality of life.

She has been a great client to work with and has embraced the changes we have recommended. We take great pride in the success of our clients and are very happy for Linda and her great results.

Many thanks again to Linda for taking the time to write such a detailed and articulate testimonial...

Prior to working with Lisa and Jason, I had been feeling unhappy and dissatisfied with my general health, body fat percentage and lack of energy.  I would look in the mirror and think “What happened?” while at the same time wonder if I could ever re-gain a healthy self. I would wonder "Was my circumstance completely without hope?"  I had become undisciplined in my eating habits, jumping from eating regular meals of healthy food to missing meals and filling up with on-the-run junk food and then back again.  A lot of that was due to scheduling pressures and poor time management, but was also due to emotional stress and general body fatigue.  Although I had built-in “movement” in my lifestyle such walking 1-2 miles to/from work, cutting grass, home renovations, standing (2 hours at a time while teaching), I did not “do” regular exercise.  I had also become more acutely aware of my aging body and wondered how much of my poor health may be due to age (memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue).  I decided to nix age and hopelessness from my thoughts and move ahead with choice, commitment and “the possible.”  Lisa and Jason were part of that decision.

Linda Before

During May-August, my attitude became that of a learner. I wanted to learn how to eat and exercise in such a way as to regain energy, lose fat and improve my general health. I wanted to become a smarter, more consistent eater and someone who exercises regularly.  My attitude was also that of a doer – it must be.  As a young adult, I enjoyed running, weight training and team sports.  So during this initial phase of my transformation, I welcomed the idea of exercise. I would even say it became a kind of self-nurture for me.  What I did not realize was the critical role of water, nutrition and sleep in my personal health.  These components were new to me and I realized that I needed to pay attention to these aspects also if wanted to understand how my body works and how I could maintain health for the remainder of my life.  Lisa and Jason have helped re-train my thinking by applying their knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to transform my body. I have used it to transform my lifestyle.

Linda After

Jason and Lisa provided me with a tailored exercise routine covering 5 phases.  I am currently in Phase 4.  This routine makes use of my minimal home gym (dumbbells, bench, ball), the high school track that is close to my home and my indoor bike with trainer.  My days now have an exercise component to them (cardio and/or weights) and I have grown to be a better time manager with a lot more muscle and a lot less fat!  I no longer eat junk food, have a cast iron skillet, use a blender (smoothies), cook with spices, eat organic fruits and veggies and lots of protein.  I have learned about toxicity in my body and the role of water in reducing toxic levels.  I continue to work at nutritional time management and decision-making that conforms to what I now know.  I sleep 8 hours a day and am up early.  This is perhaps the one single transformation that I feel has improved my general well-being the most.

I am also learning about stress in my environment and personal decisions, which has been a learning curve. I am currently learning how to establish stronger boundaries around my time in places that demand it the most, especially in the work environment. This is a new thing for me, but my attitude remains tenacious -- I choose, commit, and believe that a healthy body is possible even when the starting point or the mid-way point screams “impossible!”

Thanks to Lisa and Jason for partnering with me to transform a sagging tired me into a firmer energized me!

Upcoming Nutritional Cooking Classes

Hi Everyone,

We've got some great upcoming cooking classes that can really assist those that are struggling with what to eat on a daily basis and with routine food prep.

Our cooking classes are a "realistic" type of class with the goal of teaching recipes that can and should be used on a weekly basis. In our opinion, many cooking class recipes are geared towards a "fancier is better" approach. These type of classes can be fun to do but generally don't help provide staple, weekly recipes for fat loss.

If you would like to learn easy and realistic recipes for fat loss, these classes are well worth your time and investment. You will leave this class with easy nutrition info as well as simple, delicious meals and snacks

Both will be held at our cooking facility at Clarington's Wellness Path in Bowmanville.

Healthy Product Recommendation

We pride ourselves in recommending products that we feel are the best on the market and will genuinely benefit our clientele.

As a side note, we do not distribute MLM (Multi-Level Marketing or 'pyramid') based products. We choose our products based on a need or trends we see in our clients.

Most people we speak to are severely deficient in dark leafy greens and thus phyto-nutrients, antioxidants and trace minerals. In simple terms - people need to consume more dark leafy greens!

Veggies are an alkaline food. Human blood needs to be slightly alkaline for max health. Most people are acidic due to a host of lifestyle factors (processed foods, pollutants, poor quality water) that promote acidity in the blood.

A product that we HIGHLY recommend is Ormus Greens...

The purpose of adding a greens drink to your diet is to increase alkalinity, fight toxins, add probiotics to assist digestion and add a strong punch of anti-oxidants to promote health.

About Ormus Supergreens....

•A pure probiotic food cultured in the greens themselves with no powdered probiotics added.

•Non-GMO, and gluten free.

•Sunwarrior Ormus Supergreens uses a pattented cold-drying process which protects the heat-sensitive bioactive components and phyto-nutrients, making a superior raw, green superfood beverage that is both alive and bio-available.

•Produced in the United States, carefully controlled and monitored for purity and organic compliance.

•Sunwarrior Ormus Supergreens are some of the best tasting greens on the planet.

Ormus Greens are available for $60 plus HST for a 1 pound bag

We place orders for our recommended products every 4-6 weeks. Please contact me to order at

Pam's Story plus Before and After Pictures

A huge congratulations to Pam on her incredible transformation! Wow!

It's been a pleasure to watch Pam transform literally before my eyes over the last year. She was incredibly consistent with her attendance and although I pushed her, I could see her pushing herself as her conditioning improved.

Changes of this magnitude do not happen without a major lifestyle change. The exercise will only take people so far. It takes a combination of proper eating, stress management and mental approach on top of the physical exercise. In short - it takes commitment.

Pam used a combination of a Live in Motion Corporate Boot Camp 2 x per week, a Paleo eating plan as well as additional exercise to make her transformation. She hopes her story can inspire others to do the same.

Here is Pam's story;

Where do I begin? Well, let me address that dreaded “before” picture of me. It’s the picture that really started the weight loss and exercise ball rolling for me. I struggled with my weight in my early 30’s due to inactivity, commuting long distances, long work days and the dreaded couple pounds a year gain. I decided it was time for more than one change in my life and made a wonderful career choice that would reduce my long work hours and commute plus encourage and support a healthy work environment. I joined Ontario Shores in September 2010 and shortly after I was visiting my brother and sister-in law and she took the “before” picture of me. I was absolutely horrified at the size and shape of myself, let alone the fact I almost didn’t even recognize myself because my face had become so distorted due to weight gain. I vowed right then and there I would lose the weight and never look like that again! My sister encouraged me to not delete the photo from my phone but to use it as a reminder when I needed encouragement as to why I was making different lifestyle changes.

Ontario Shores really promotes a healthy lifestyle for patients and employees. This afforded me absolutely no excuses not to make these changes. I also had a colleague who mentioned that she attended boot camp and personal training in Bowmanville with Live in Motion. I was extremely intimidated by “boot camp” as I felt the only physical strength I had was being able to jog a little bit.

She assured me that I would enjoy Jason’s humour, encouragement and support and that I could work at my own pace and not feel intimidated. My peer spoke with Jason and our Wellness Coordinator to organize an after work boot camp trial for a few of us who were interested.

A year later of boot camp twice a week and I’m proud to say I feel strong and am in better shape than I was in my 20’s. My love for exercise has increased and it is now something I can’t live without. I’ve never been bored with Jason’s boot camp and love the fact that it becomes a social outlet through some really good laughs or a bit of spirited competitiveness.

I would highly recommend Jason from Live in Motion. I would encourage you to join one of Jason’s boot camps or even get enough people together to start one at work like we did!! Don’t feel embarrassed, discouraged or intimidated. If I can do it with the help of Jason and now be addicted to exercise, then so can you!! Thanks again Jason for providing your community with a great service!

Cheers,
Pam

Having Trouble Losing Weight? Check Your Sleep Patterns!

More and more info has been reaching the fitness industry about the effects of proper sleep on weight loss.

Most new clients that we see that are struggling to lose weight have poor sleep patterns, along with other lifestyle habits that need changing.

Your body needs proper deep sleep to function. If you are struggling to lose weight, check your sleep patterns!

Check out these statistics on sleep patterns;

1) On average we sleep 1-2 hours less per night than 40 years ago

2) Helsinki Health Study 2010 - short sleep (less than 5 hours per day) associated with major weight gain in women

3) Mice exposed to light at night tend to eat more at night and gain more weight, even if total calories are the same as placebo mice.

4) Quebec en Forme project - short sleep duration is the STRONGEST predictor of overweight and obesity in adults and children. More than inactivity, TV watching, alcohol intake, income and education, parental obesity. (Chaput et al, Obesity 2009)

5) Even acute periods of short sleep are associated with increased caloric intake...

*One night of 4hrs of sleep in young men resulted in +559 kcal intake over the following day vs. 8 hrs sleep.
(Brandel et al, Am J Clin Nutr 2010)

6) Increasing sleep also associated with reduced fat gain in adult short sleepers (< 6 hrs/day) over 6 years...

*Increase from 6 to 7.5 hrs/night = 2.4kg less fat mass gained vs. those who maintained short sleep.
(Chaput et al, Int J Obes 2011)

Corporations benefit from having healthier and happier employees. Everyone wins.

Live In Motion Charity Road Hockey Team - Players Needed

Here's the lowdown...

I'm 38 - I don't get to play road hockey anymore, and I'm not pleased about it. We hit a certain age where we just don't get to play. It's not like we can walk up to a group of neighborhood kids and say "Hey Dudes, can I play too?" Besides most of them are sitting in front of their TV's playing Call of Duty anyway.

I've talked to many other guys about the good old road hockey days. We all complain that we miss it and swap stories of our glory days in our childhood neighborhoods. I'm pretty sure I am still the highest scoring player in the history of Concord Place in Burlington, Ontario road hockey from July 1981, but I don't like to brag.

Well, It's time to play again. Live in Motion is entering a team (maybe 2) in the Big Brothers Big Sisters BIG 3-on-3 Road Hockey Tournament. Just to clarify - we will be in the 18 plus division.

I'm in the process of becoming a Big Brother and would like to help out the organization. We all understand the value of helping a charity - no need to explain here.

Here's the details;

Date: Sat, May 12
Location: Bowmanville
Time: Games start at 9:15am
Division: 18 plus
Cost: $25 per player ($150 per team - max of 6 players per team)

Please email me at jason@liveinmotion.ca if you are interested in joining this elite squad of snipers.

Note - it is encouraged that players wear gloves, helmets, jocks etc. We'll also have to find some goalie gear - and a goalie for that matter.

So far Team#1 is...

1) Me (Jason)
2) Kris Meawasige "The Nunavut Warrior"
3) Jason "Just Do It" Nike
4) Adam "Habs Fan" Holt
5) Matt "Married Madman" Bryan

Next Cooking Class - Sat, May 5th. Quick and Tasty Meals for Fat Loss

One of the biggest factors in losing fat and staying lean is the consistency of proper meal intake. When we speak with clients this is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) challenges.

If you evaluate your week in terms of healthy meal consistency, how many meals did you miss? How many were not conducive to fat loss? How many made you feel lethargic, tired, bloated?

Our advice to clients is to learn to prepare two healthy meal recipes. If you've got 20-30 mins to whip up something healthy and tasty, nobody wants to consult a recipe book and turn the whole thing into a production. Once you can do two in your sleep, learn another two and so on.

Our Quick and Tasty Meals for Fat Loss class is designed to teach SIMPLE meals that can become staples for health, energy and fat loss.

Details;

Saturday, May 5th from 10am to 1pm

Location; Clarington's Wellness Path in Bowmanville

Cost is $65 which includes cost of food and recipe book. Bring a child under 18 for $25.

Please email me at jason@liveinmotion.ca to register. This class is a small group format with room for 8 participants.

Ingredients:

> 1 can of coconut milk (full fat version)

> 1-1 1/2 cups of natural peanut butter (to taste)
> ½ cup chopped raw almonds (optional)
> ½ cup chopped raw pecans (optional)
> 2 scoops vanilla or chocolate protein powder
> 4 tablespoons oat bran
